To bring a sparkle to this new year, what’s better than an orange dress? And even if it wasn’t us who wore it, Selena Gomez did it wonderfully for the premiere of the series 13 Reasons Why, held at Paramount Pictures on March 30, 2017 in Los Angeles, California.

The singer/entrepreneur/producer wore an Oscar de la Renta metallic cord embroidered strapless cocktail dress from the Fall 2017 Ready-to-Wear collection paired with joyous gradient Rebecca de Ravenel Chiquita corded-silk drop earrings. Keeping the look at a minimum, she wore a pair of “simple” Giuseppe Zanotti Bridget mules in light pink velvet fabric.

The most striking part of her look were her nails: manicurist Tom Bachik suggested watching the series to know the brand of her nail polish, which is Sinful Colors in the shade Endless Blue.

If you are an avid watcher, you probably noticed that the protagonist of the first season Hannah Baker (played by Katherine Langford) used to write a number–a reason, there are 13 in total–on a series of cassette tapes with that same blue nail polish–she also had it on in a pivotal scene of the series (that we won’t spoil for you). When Selena also wore blue nail polish on the red carpet, it became a subtle tribute that social media quickly picked up on. It has become a statement of solidarity with the struggle mentioned in the series, and that’s truly beautiful.

13 Reasons Why is an American teen drama streaming television series developed for Netflix, based on the 2007 novel Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher. The series revolves around high school students Clay Jensen and Hannah Baker who leaves behind a box of cassette tapes in which she details why she chose to make a certain decision and the people she believes are responsible for it.

Through its various storylines, the show explores and depicts a wide range of social issues affecting modern youth, including suicide, sexual assault, bullying, racism, jock culture, mental health, drug addiction, alcoholism, domestic violence, homophobia, deportation, police brutality, steroid use, homelessness, HIV, abortion and school shootings.

Selena Gomez executive produced it.
