Darren Criss totally nailed the ‘campy‘ theme of the 2019’s MET Gala.

It doesn’t come as surprise seen his multifaceted nature and his ability to act, sing and create any kind of art.

His custom Balmain ensemble was reminiscent of Harlequin from the Italian commedia dell’arte. His 13 lbs hand-beaded coattail jacket resembled that of the character because Arlecchino (in Italian) is characterized by his chequered costume which–in this case–was obviously translated into something more couture-like but reflecting Balmain‘s opulent aesthetic entirely.

Here you can see groomer Jessica Ortiz working her magic on Darren‘s face (3rd slide) plus a time-lapse of her while she’s applying makeup on him.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, she used Shiseido Kajal InkArtist liner in Gunjo Blue for the eyes and Azuki Red for the lip strip.

Nail artist Alex Jachno painted his nails blue using an Orly nail polish in the shade “It’s Brittney, Beach” (look at the 2nd slide for some action).
