There is nothing better than fashion when it also means sustainability. That was the case at the 2019’s Green Carpet Fashion Awards held at Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Italy.

Model and philanthropist Candice Swanepoel was a guest at the event, walking the red carpet, wearing a bespoke sustainable look that showcased innovative materials and processes and exquisite craftsmanship.

The dress was a custom Philosophy pale blue silk eco sustainable gown with draped halter neck bodice and long chiffon flowing skirt. According to Eco-Age.com: “The custom pale blue gown is made of organic silk chiffon created in Italy and certified by the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS).

Sourcing organic fabrics is a means of mitigating chemical pollution caused by agricultural pesticides, thus preserving the air, water and soil quality for local communities.”

There wasn’t jewelry to accessorize her look but a pair of red Christian Louboutin Douce Du Désert pumps.

Attention to detail and a no-waste policy helped organize the evening, according to The Standard Hong Kong, the green carpet covered Piazza La Scala using more than 2,000 square metres of ECONYL regenerated nylon. Created from rescued fishing nets and other nylon waste, the carpet provided the backdrop for the event, and following the awards it was recycled or repurposed.

All plants and flowers used in the production of the event were donated to the City of Milan and re-planted after the awards.

The Green Carpet Fashion Awards, Italia, celebrates the best in sustainable fashion.

The awards reflect the commitment of fashion houses to sustainability, as they work to embrace rapid change while preserving the heritage and authenticity of small-scale producers.

Eco-Age devised and launched The Green Carpet Fashion Awards (GCFA) in Milan in 2017 in collaboration with Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana (CNMI).

Held every year at La Scala theatre in Milan, they are the only awards ceremony to honor both the handprint of fashion (the human capital that goes into the making of fashion), as well as to acknowledge the footprint (the natural capital and environmental impact) of fashion at this level.

They are about progress and future, visionaries and game changers and ultimately solutions for a more just fashion industry.
