Joey George is a New York-based hairstylist.
Having developed an early passion for the arts, through his ballet studies from age four and surrounded by his father’s personal photography practice, Joey moved to New York to pursue performance art.
Years later, Joey graduated with a cosmetology degree from the Aveda Institute, laying the foundation for his journey into the world of session hairstyling before assisting and training under Oribe.
This apprenticeship honed his skills and opened doors for him to contribute to Oribe Hair Care, co-developing hair products and becoming an international educator for the brand.
Joey draws inspiration from a rich tapestry of influences – painting, sculpture, performance, music, and poetry serve as constant sources of creative fuel.
His work extends beyond traditional hairstyling in Joey’s Journal, an ongoing personal project encompassing photography, art direction, and even sculpting and painting with human hair to craft unique headpieces.
Joey has worked alongside photographers and stylists like Hanna Tveite, Nadine Ijewere, Stef Mitchell, Juergen Teller, Collier Schorr, Luis Alberto Rodriguez, David Bailey, Ethan James Green, Oliver Hadlee Pearch, Vanessa Beecroft, Sara Moonves, Emma Wyman, Vanessa Traina, and Carlos Nazario, amongst others.
His work has been published in American Vogue, British Vogue, A Magazine, Dazed, i-D, Re-Edition, The Face, D Repubblica and Double Magazine, among others.
His clients include Tom Ford, Loewe, Marc Jacobs, Khaite, Proenza Schouler, Calvin Klein, Tiffany & Co, Helmut Lang, Zara, NARS, Rhode, and MAC Cosmetics.
Joey has keyed shows for brands like Ulla Johnson, Willy Chavarria, Lapointe, Diotima, Atlein Paris, Pyer Moss, Band of Outsiders and others.
