Jamaican Barbie

Jamaican Barbie, whose real name is Yasmin Adams, is a self-taught celebrity hairstylist based in Los Angeles.

She grew up in one of Los Angeles’ toughest communities, hanging around gang members and seeing a lot of her friends getting killed at a young age. That’s what pushed her to get away from there to make it as a hairstylist.

Due to her love for hair, she was often called ‘Miss Jamaica‘ owing it also to her father whose heritage hailed from Tivoli Gardens, a neighborhood in Kingston, Jamaica. Although she was born in the United States, she grew up in a household steeped in Jamaican culture.

Dancehall culture was her inspiration, indeed she has always rocked long hair, wearing bright colors, leading those in her community to call call her ‘Miss Jamaica‘ (as previously mentioned) and ‘Barbie‘. The mix of the two monikers led to the nickname ‘Jamaican Barbie‘.

Some of her most notable celebrity clients are Travis Scott, Riff Raff and Offset (even though it was only a matter of touch-ups). The cutest thing is that she also styles Stormi‘s hair.

Even if she is famous now, she never forgets where she comes from, that’s why she created Project Desarden, a charity which helps low income and homeless families.

Jamaican Barbie is specialized in natural hair braiding styles and hair growth treatments.
